In Louisiana there are four different revised statutes regarding DWI penalties. The first and second DWI offenses are considered misdemeanor DWI’s. A misdemeanor means that the possible jail time is less than one year. When you get three or more DWI’s those are considered felonies in which you can get at least one year in jail. When you read the revised statutes you will see that the DWI punishments get much more severe with each additional DWI.
That is why DWI’s should be taken very seriously because after two DWI’s you could be facing jail time for over a year. With a misdemeanor DWI you can expect to have to do a variety of requirements such as pay fines, get a hardship drivers license, get interlock in your car, participate in programs with the court.
