In Louisiana the first two DWI offenses are misdemeanors. The third and subsequent DWI’s are felonies. That just means that you will serve at least a year in jail according to the statute. These are very serious charges that can land you many years in jail not to mention thousands of dollars in fines and court approved programs. In Louisiana DWI’s are very serious crimes that judges don’t take lightly. You will not just get a slap on the wrist that is why you need an attorney to help you fight for your rights.

DWI penalties in Louisiana progressively get very serious depending on how many offenses you have. You can see for your third DWI according to RS 14:98.3  you could possibly receive a prison sentence of 1-5 years. Then for your fourth DWI offense according to RS 14:98.4 you could get sentenced between 10-30 years. You can see how serious the statute gets when you go from your 3rd to 4th DWI.
